Cherryvale home, possessions destroyed in fire

CHERRYVALE — A Cherryvale family lost their home and possessions in a fire Sunday afternoon.

Chad Russell, assistant chief of the Cherryvale Fire-Rescue Department, said the house at 414 E. Seventh was fully involved in flames and smoke when local firefighters were summoned to the home shortly before 1:30 p.m., Sunday. The home is registered to Kenneth and Kimberly Schell, according to property records at the Montgomery County Courthouse.

Russell said all occupants were safely outside the one and a half story home when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters entered the structure and knocked down the fire within a few minutes, Russell said. Firefighters remained on scene searching for “hot” areas within the walls, crevices and voids.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Cherryvale Fire-Rescue and Cherryvale Police Department, he said. No foul play is suspected, he said, however the home and all possessions were destroyed in the fire.

Responding to the fire were the Cherryvale Fire-Rescue Department, the Cherryvale and Independence divisions of the Montgomery County Rural Fire Department, the Independence Fire Department, the Cherryvale Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department.
