Below is a statement issued Friday afternoon by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department regarding the two-vehicle collision that occurred Thursday evening west of the U.S. 169-160 highway junction.
On Nov. 29, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, Kansas Highway Patrol, Independence EMS and Cherryvale EMS responded to an injury accident located approximately 1 1/4 miles west of the U.S. 169-160 highway junction. The accident was a two-vehicle, head-on collision; the drivers of the vehicle were the only occupants in the vehicles. Due to the seriousness of their injuries, both drivers were flown by helicopters to Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo., for treatment of their injuries. The accident is still under investigation and further information will be provided upon completion of the report. Assistance with the accident was provided by the Cherryvale Police Department and Montgomery County Rural Fire Department.
